Where to Start?

Inspiration, not rubbish.

A blank sheet of paper can be daunting when inspiration has flown out of the window, so I make a habit of keeping snippets of things I like – be it pictures, colours, textures or even words. Looking through a newspaper I will come across things that may spark an idea later- or even be incorporated into the artwork itself. These are snipped out and put in a box for future reference….. I’d avoid the front pages though, unless you are inspired by bad news!

HEALTH WARNING – Don’t  cut up the newspaper until the person who bought it has finished reading, it won’t make you popular!

Go live or go home!

Okay, you don’t need to go home, I don’t mean to be bossy. Working from a studio or at home from reference materials or a still life are all well and good, but it’s great practise to draw ‘live’ people in the flesh. These photos were taken at the Alcampo Lounge in London Road, Brighton. Every couple of weeks there is a different model with a variety of costumes. Fancy trying it? Contact Debbiehinks.com -she supplies the easels as well as paper and  pastels.

Winter Art Collection Nov 2016 – April 2017

I had the pleasure of exhibiting a large body of work for six months in this beautiful boutique hotel in Hove. I am standing behind my husband and some friends with a very large gin and tonic- courtesy of a local gin company who sponsored the opening night.

My painting top right of photo didn’t sell during this exhibition, but has done since. Just goes to show there is someone for every painting….keep going until you find them!
